Shiba Inu

Known for their rather fox-like appearance, the Shiba Inu is a lively, intelligent breed originating from Japan. They were used for hunting in the past, specializing in tracking and flushing small game out of the dense brush. Aptly named for their hunting prowess, in Japanese "Shiba" translates to brushwood while "Inu" is the Japanese word for dog. Shiba Inu are typically an independent breed and are often compared to cats because of their feline-like grooming habits and aloofness. With a history dating back to 300 BC, they still retain their athletic abilities to this day and make wonderful family pets and companions for active households.
