Redbone Coonhound

Although their exact origins are unclear, the Redbone Coonhound is an American breed that was initially used for its hunting and tracking prowess while hunting raccoons. The raccoon was an important source of both food and pelts for early settlers and these hunting hounds excelled at catching them. Redbone Coonhounds are a friendly and loyal breed that make wonderful companions and family dogs for active households. Known for their distinctive red coats, these avid hunters are both loving companions and natural athletes. While they have an independent nature, they are also very soft and affectionate with their people and genuinely love to be in their company.
