Lapponian Herder
The Lapponian Herder is an intelligent, versatile breed with a sturdy, muscular build and a lean, agile gait. Unlike the majority of herding breeds that find themselves moving sheep, goats, and cows, the Lapponian Herder was used by the Sami people to herd and protect their reindeer. In fact, these skilled dogs are still tasked with overseeing herds of reindeer to this day. Their well-insulated double coats and the thick layers of fur on the inside and outside of their ears allowed them to work in the coldest of climates with little risk of frostbite.
