Leonberger
The Leonberger is a large breed originating in Leonberg, Germany, and is believed to contain a mix of the Landseer, Newfoundland Dog, St. Bernard, and Great Pyrenees. These powerful yet gentle dogs were initially put to work on farms pulling carts and guarding livestock and were later used to pull ambulance and ammunition carts during wartime. Affectionately referred to as "Leos", Leonbergers are still used today in search & rescue efforts and as companion and therapy dogs because of their strong work ethic and gentle, comforting nature.
