Swedish Vallhund

The Swedish Vallhund is a medium-sized herding dog that has been around for over 1,000 years. Often mistaken for the Pembroke Corgi due to its stout frame, short legs, and pointed ears, the Swedish Vallhund is believed to have been brought to Britain by the Vikings centuries ago and was originally used to herd and drove cattle, hunt vermin, and act as a watchdog. Their thick double coats allowed them to work in the cold, wet, rough terrain without difficulty while their short frames kept them well out of reach from kicking cattle. While they may look like corgis, they are more closely related to the Norwegian Elkhound and other Scandinavian spitz breeds.
