Plott Hound

Originating in the United States some 200 years ago, the Plott Hound is both a fearless hunting dog and a loyal companion. Although most hound breeds originated in the United Kingdom, the Plott Hound can trace its ancestry back to Germany. In the mid-18th century, the Plott family brought several Hanover hounds with them to North Carolina, which were eventually bred with local hound breeds. The result was an avid hunter with impeccable scenting and tracking abilities and a well-rounded temperament. As avid pack hunters, the Plott Hound has been known to successfully track and take down all manner of prey, ranging from foxes and badgers to bears and wild boars. Their long, lithe legs and strong, muscular build gave them the speed, stamina, and endurance necessary for chasing down even the fastest of animals. Their expert hunting skills, unwavering loyalty, and affection have made them popular hunting dogs and family pets to this day.
