Irish Water Spaniel

Originally bred in Ireland during the 1830s, the Irish Water Spaniel (IWS) is aptly named for both its Irish ancestry and aquatic talents. Thought to be the oldest of the spaniel breeds, the IWS is believed to contain a mix of the North and South Country Irish Water Spaniels (which are no longer in existence) as well as the Portuguese Water Spaniel, various poodle breeds, and barbets. They are considered to be a hypoallergenic breed and make an excellent choice for owners who prefer pups with low shedding levels.
