Irish Wolfhound

A giant hound breed with a wiry coat and tall build, the Irish Wolfhound is a stoic dog and skilled hunter that was originally bred to take down large game such as, you guessed it, wolves! Their origins can be traced all the way back to the beginning of trade between the British Empire and the Middle East. It's believed that this centuries-old hound came into existence after various Middle Eastern hounds were bred with dogs native to England. In fact, there are accounts of Roman nobility receiving majestic, and rather large, "horse-like" hounds as gifts in the year 391. That sounds like a pretty accurate description of the Irish Wolfhound to us!
