Akbash
The Akbash is an incredibly old breed whose ancestry can be traced back thousands of years to Turkey. While their true bloodlines are unknown, these rather large dogs are thought to include some mix of mastiff and various sighthound breeds and were originally used to protect livestock from predators like wolves. Calm, watchful, and quietly devoted, the Akbash was bred to think independently, and it shows. They don?t fuss or show off, but they know exactly what?s going on around them. Their bond is steady and deep, often expressed through presence rather than play. With the right trust and space, they become silent guardians of the home.
