American English Coonhound

Native to the United States, the American English Coonhound (AEC) is a lithe, muscular hunter and an avid tracker. Although they originated in America, their ancestry is English - Descendants of the highly revered English Foxhound, the AEC would hunt foxes during the day and raccoons once the sun went down. Raccoons were an important source of food for early settlers, so while they may not have brought home the "bacon" per se, they did play an essential role in helping their families earn a living and put food on the table. One of six hound breeds officially recognized by the American Kennel Club, the American English Coonhound sports trademark floppy hound ears, a long muzzle ideal for sniffing, and deep, soulful eyes.
