Tornjak
Also known as the Croatian Shepherd or Bosnian-Herzegovinian Shepherd, the Tornjak is an incredibly old and rare breed. Originally used to guard livestock and protect property from both human and animal trespassers, the Tornjak is a confident breed with a long-standing history. It's quite uncommon to have such a well-documented, written history for a breed as old as the Tornjak, but in their case, there is written documentation dating as far back as the year 1067! Their strong, muscular bodies, thick double coats, and sturdy legs allowed them to work efficiently in the treacherous mountain terrain while their sharp minds kept them alter to possible threats. An immediate relative of the powerful Tibetan Mastiff, the Tornjak has been relied upon by farmers and homesteaders in their homeland for thousands of years.
