Sloughi

An undeniably athletic dog, the Sloughi (SLOO-ghee) is an ancient breed of hound hailing from North Africa. Their sleek, muscular frames, long legs, and endless endurance make them both incredibly fast and agile. As one of the most favoured sighthounds of the region, they were used by the indigenous Berber people of Africa as well as the ancient Egyptians to hunt all manner of prey. Whether they were chasing hares, foxes, wild pigs, or even jackals, these speedy hounds were something to be reckoned with. Revered for their athleticism and slyness while on the prowl, they are typically found in Morocco and throughout North Africa. In fact, they are so rare outside of their homeland that the breed wasn't recognized by the American Kennel Club until 2016.
