Kunming Dog

Also known as the Kunming Wolfdog or Chinese Wolfdog, the Kunming Dog is a multi-talented working breed that hails from China. A hybrid of shepherds and wolfdogs, they closely resemble the German Shepherd, which makes sense because the two are in fact related. The Kunming Dog is aptly named for its place of origin, Kunming, which is the capital of Yunnan Province. They were initially developed to fulfill a need for military and police dogs to be used for scent detection, search & rescue, and for guarding and patrol purposes. Finding little success with any existing breeds, breeders set out to create an entirely new dog with an impeccable sense of smell, a high level of intelligence, physical strength, agility, and endurance. The result was the Kunming Wolfdog. An undeniably attractive breed, the Kunming Dog has retained its ancestor's wolf-like appearance and features the large, wedge-shaped head and long black muzzle of the German Shepherd. While their muscular bodies are large, lean, and powerful, their tiny paws are surprisingly dainty and cat-like.
