Komondor

The Komondor is a large, powerfully built livestock guardian hailing from Hungary. With its striking coat of long, white, "dreadlocks", it's no wonder they're one of the world's most recognizable breeds. They are believed to be descendants of the Caucasian Shepherd, brought to the region sometime during the 1200s. With a deep chest, well-muscled frame, and powerful bark, these stoic pups have been used to guard and protect livestock for centuries. While their trademark dreadlocks definitely earn them points for style, they're more than just for show! Their thick, cord-like coats helped provide protection from both the elements and predators with sharp teeth and claws such as wolves, coyotes, and even bears.
