Berger Picard
Believed to be the oldest of the French herding breeds, the Berger Picard is an agile and intelligent dog with a lean, well-muscled frame and a dense, wiry double coat that allows them to work in the harshest of conditions. It's thought that their ancestors were brought to France when the Celts arrived around the year 800 AD. and were developed to work long hours in rough terrain and cold, wet climates herding sheep and protecting livestock. Affectionately referred to as Picards, their trademark scruffy beard, mustache and eyebrows give them quite an expressive face and compliment their lively, sociable personalities.
