Welsh Springer Spaniel
Affectionately referred to as "Welshies", the Welsh Springer Spaniel is an active working breed that was originally used to help flush out game by springing into action, quite literally. Aptly named for their ability to "spring" or jump straight into the air upon locating prey, these lively, athletic dogs are both skilled trackers and affectionate companions. A relative yet separate breed from the English Springer Spaniel and Cocker Spaniel, the Welshie became popular among hunters in the 1800s and was sought-after for its compact frame, impeccable scenting skills, and its trademark springing jump.
