Spinone Italiano

The Spinone Italiano is a large breed hailing from Italy and was initially used to help track and hunt all manner of game. While their exact origins are unclear, the breed is believed to have existed for a few hundred years and is thought to contain a mix of rough-coated setters, French Griffons, and white Mastiffs. A rather versatile breed, the Spinone Italiano is skilled as both a retriever and a pointer. Their wiry, weather-resistant coats allowed them to work in the cold, wet terrain without difficulty, and their distinctive beard and bushy eyebrows give them a rather unique appearance.
