McNab Dog

The McNab Dog is a true working breed through and through and has a rather unique history in the sense that we can pinpoint exactly when and where they first originated. Aptly named after the founder of the breed, Alexander McNab, McNab dogs were bred for the specific purpose of working ranches in the blazing heat and rugged terrain of Northern California, a task that was nearly impossible for the long-haired collies that typically worked on farms. The McNab's short, slick coats and cat-like paws allowed them to withstand the heat and move nimbly over the scorching ground. Often referred to as McNab Collies or Shepherds, the breed is believed to contain a mix of Scottish Border Collies and several varieties of shepherd dogs.
