Jamthund
Commonly known as the Swedish Elkhound, the Jamthund is a rather rare breed hailing from the Central Swedish region of Jamtland. Since the area is known for its particularly brutal weather, only the strongest of dogs survived and needed to be hardy and powerful enough to live and work in severely cold conditions. The Jamthund proved to be more than capable and played a major role in helping their humans to hunt, and as a result, survive. In addition to hunting, these versatile dogs also make excellent watchdogs, herders, and sled dogs and have been used as such for hundreds of years. An undeniably attractive breed, they share a striking resemblance to their ancient ancestor - the wolf. Their thick, luxurious coats can be found in shades of grey, cream, black, and white, and often feature lighter and darker markings throughout the body. They sport the trademark pointed ears and full tail that curls up and over their back common among Northern spitz breeds.
