Olde English Bulldogge
The Olde English Bulldogge (OEB) is a medium to large-sized breed with a stocky, muscular build and somewhat of a disputed history. While we do know the breed originated in England and was quite popular by the 17th Century, their exact ancestry is still unclear. Some believe they are the descendants of the Molossus, a fierce, ancient breed from Rome often used in war, while other theories suggest they are more closely related to the English Mastiff, Tibetan Mastiff, and Dogue de Bordeaux. Regardless of their origins, the Olde English Bulldogge of the 1600s is starkly different in appearance from the modern English Bulldogs most are familiar with today. Traditionally, the OEB had longer limbs, a slightly longer muzzle, and was less companionable but rather fiercer and more imposing.
