Finnish Lapphund
The Finnish Lapphund is a medium-sized herding dog that was originally bred to herd Reindeer in their native land of Lapland, Finland, located in the Arctic Circle. Their dense, double coats allowed them to work in the harsh, frigid climate in which they were born without sacrificing speed or endurance. Since they were bred to work around wild reindeer capable of lethal kicks and attacks with their antlers, some Lapphunds have developed somewhat of a startle reflex in response to sudden movements and noises. They are considered a hardy breed capable of working in rough terrain and yet they are gentle, affectionate, and watchful by nature.
