English Setter
Originally bred in England to assist with hunting and retrieving small game and waterfowl, the English Setter may trace its roots all the way back to the 15th Century. Believed to be the oldest of the "gundog" breeds, they were sought by hunters for their ability to crouch low to the ground upon locating prey, allowing the hunter to fire their gun well above the dog's head and make their shot. Their ancestry is thought to contain a mix of various pointing breeds and spaniels. While they are still used as hunting dogs today, you can also find these affectionate, well-mannered pups living as family pets and companion dogs.
