Almond Oil

Almond Oil intolerances do occur in dogs and can range from mild to severe. Although almonds aren't necessarily toxic to dogs, they can cause gastrointestinal issues in dogs with or without an almond intolerance.

Almonds, and almond products, are one of those foods that our four-legged friends simply can't digest as easily as we can.

Some dogs may develop an intolerance or sensitivity because they aren't able to properly process the proteins found in nuts. As with any nut allergy, anaphylaxis is a risk in extreme cases. Your results will indicate whether your dog's intolerance level was mild, moderate, or strong.

Almond oil is extracted from the seed of the almond fruit and refined by pressing raw almonds. It has been used for centuries to help soothe skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis and to treat minor cuts and wounds.

You can also find almond oil in many foods and baked goods, including cakes and biscuits for dogs. To be on the safe side, it's best to check a treat's ingredients thoroughly before feeding them to your pup.

While this page refers specifically to almond oil, it should be noted that in addition to causing allergic reactions, whole almonds pose a risk of obstructing your pup's digestive tract. Almonds, and other nuts, can become lodged in a dog's esophagus, windpipe, or intestines. This is particularly true for small breeds.
